![]() There is also a Report on uncalibrated display that you can use to see the same information but it does the measurements without the calibration loaded. this will do some quick measurements and give some basic info including contrast ratio. It’ll create an html page with a load of information including the contrast ratio.Īnother way is Tools menu > Report > Report on calibrated display. Go there, make sure the Simulation profile check box is unchecked and run through the measurements. Also, some games require you to turn on HDR in Windows to activate, others do not. After you’ve created a profile there should be a Verification tab with a green check mark to the right. ![]() If you set it to mode 1 in SDR for example, it will stay on mode 0 in HDR until you change it. The brightness setting will be unavailable when you are watching/playing HDR content.Įdit: The variable back light mode setting will need to be set for both SDR and HDR. Set your brightness to whatever your heart desires. Mode 1 seems to be the quickest out of the three, so I use that. I find mode 1 to be the best setting out of the three, but you will need to play with it and find one that you like. I absolutely use the variable backlight, although you can notice it in darker scenes but I think it adds enough that it does not bother me much. Leave your contrast at the default setting, leave dark stabilizer off as it really washes out the image, you could use it if you want but I think it looks like complete shit. I love a good eye searing, I have my monitors brightness set to 90 which is roughly 400 nits, or 400 cd/m2! A lot of people calibrate to a "proper" 120 cd/m2 but I find that way to dark for me (about half of what you have your monitor set to now). Thats one setting that I feel is completely personal. In Displa圜al, go to the Tools menu>Report>Report on calibrated device to see how your calibration came out. The whitepoint is the color temperature, different from brightness. You are correct on the whitepoint, it was the 7152k (kelvin) number. To answer your last question, you will not see and indicator unless you hit the joystick on your monitor, it will show an indicator on there when you are using HDR. Let me know if you have any questions, feel free to dm me for help if necessary. This allowed me to achieve an almost perfect 6500k whitepoint. For example, mine is set to R95 G85 and B65. If you cant get all three to the middle, it helps to put all three to 80 (from the default 100) and work from there. This is EXTREMELY important to get as perfect as possible to avoid color banding post calibration. This means you will use your monitors OSD (on screen display) to manually set the R, G, and B values to get you as close to a 6500k whitepoint as possible. The goal is to get all three of those bars in the middle using your monitors custom color presets. You will see three bars for Red, Green and Blue. This will start the interactive color display, click start profiling. Now hit Calibrate & profile at the bottom. Now go to the "Profiling" sub tab and under Profile type select XYZ LUT + matrix. If your gamma was right at 2.2, leave or set the tone curve to gamma 2.2 and everything else at default. ![]() Now go to the "Calibration" sub tab, Whitepoint>Color temperature and type in 6500k. Go to the "display and instrument" sub tab, go over to Instrument>mode> and select LCD White LED. Now that you have the basic information, you are ready to calibrate. My AW38 had a perfect gamma of 2.2 but ran close to 9000k whitepoint which is incredibly blue. This will tell you what your whitepoint and gamma are set to on the stock settings. With your Spyder 5 on your monitor, go to Tools>Report>Report on uncalibrated display and let it run its thing. Once you get Displa圜al to recognize your Spyder5, go to Options and enable advanced settings. On the monitors OSD, use the preset mode "custom color" as you will want to change your RGB values later in the calibration to get the desired whitepoint. I would also turn off the local dimming when you calibrate (Variable backlight >off). The Displa圜al website has good instructions on how to get started.Īlways calibrate with HDR turned off. Download Displa圜al ( ) and use that, you will get a much better calibration by far. First off, do not use the software that the Spyder 5 comes with. ![]()
